Anyone who knows me knows that I looove painting my nails, it's kind of therapeutic, I catch up on Vampire Diaries and the Secret Circle on my DVR and paint away.

Apparently the fashionista noticed the similarities between this and a few images from Rihanna's new video for You Da One. While the images are very similar, I am going to give Ri Ri and her team a pass, who hasn't seen something amazing and wanted to put their own spin on it? Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?

I have decided to review some of my favorite shows of the season. So let's get the ball rolling with CBS' 2 Broke Girls.

I'll start this review off by saying that I love Kat Dennings, she has a knack for playing tough as nails, but with a heart of gold characters and Max, one of the broke girls is no exception. Without giving too much away (I've only caught the first episode thus far), 2 Broke Girls follows Max and Caroline (Beth Behrs), the former a waitress working two jobs, who whips up amazing cupcakes (i don't know who makes them but they do look good), the latter the a former rich girl whose family loses all of their money thanks to her dad's ponzi scheme. For her part, Beth does a wonderful job of making Caroline likeable, you want to root for her right off the bat, not only because she's a fish out of water, but because you can tell she is determined to swim. Created by Whitney Cummings and Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City), Broke Girls seems to be off to a good start. The show is one of my favorite comedies of the year so far (I look forward to checking out Surburbgatory) because at the heart is an unlikely friendship. Can't wait to see what adventures these two go on.

If you're like me, you immediately associate Gloria Steinem with the women's right movement of the 60's and 70's. I'm pretty sure my assessment of her didn't really go beyond that, luckily though I watched the HBO Documentary on her Gloria: In Her Own Words, a too short, if you ask me (it's just an hour long) overview of her life beginning with her first big story, an expose on the Playboy Club and the conditions the women there worked under.It was just the beginning of a new mission Ms. Steinem had on working for women's equality, a goal that is still not fully realized (women only make 75 cents for every $1 a man makes), it gives insight into the progress she has made in the 40+ years since she became one of the faces for the movement. I was amazed at the negative feedback she encountered, especially from the other women who she was trying to help. Gloria's goal was for women to have a choice...something that my generation has definitely benefited from, even if we haven't fully realized the dream (of her or Dr. King but that's a story for another day). The film is definitely worth checking out. The trailer is below.

Amy Winehouse has been one of my favorite singers ever since her first album "Frank" which was her honest portrayal of a relationship gone wrong, it mixed jazz and r&b perfectly. Gah!! I feel so out of the loop, but I stumbled across these Vogue Italia photos on the Sartorialist today and at first I didn't realize what he meant about being "respectful" to the models, because all I saw were beautiful models in a really nice shot. Five Things About Me:

1. I really, really like those half and half double-stuffed Oreos. Mainly because they remind me of the cookies I used to trade my pudding for in kindergarten (don't you miss those days?).

2. Moving to L.A. permanently is my birthday goal (four months and counting).

3. I love watching Audrey Hepburn films, not just for the fashion, but because she was just a great actress. Sabrina is one of my favorites.

4. I spend way to much time blog-hopping, when I should be finishing my novel (there are just so many great blogs out there).

5. I can't wait until I finally finish my first novel...I'm almost there, it's a young adult novel about a girl who can talk to ghosts. That's all I can say right now, though I may add an excerpt at some point.

Thought I'd share a few photos from my recent trip to Knaus Berry Farm, a farm that is open in the Redlands (about 30 minutes south of Miami) from November-April. They seriously have the best cinnamon rolls I have ever tasted and my favorite vanilla milkshake, though they have other flavors, including pineapple, mango, chocolate and strawberry.

I was a little skeptical about the whole small, crossbody bag trend. It just didn't seem possible that I could fit all of the things I place in my regular (extra) large handbags (a little notebook, lotion, wallet, phone and miscellaneous stuff that I pick up along the way). However, when I saw the last of the Mulberry for Target bags a few months ago (they were on serious clearance at that point) I decided to give this little number a try. I started wearing it a few days ago and the freedom I feel walking around with nothing in my hands is unbelievable. Sure, it doesn't fit my wallet, but it fits the important things, my ipod, lotion and anti-bacterial stuff phone and my sunglasses. All in all, it's my new favorite bag. Of course, now I am on the hunt for a small colorful bag to add to my collection.

cherry blossom trees at the national mall

Had a lot of fun in D.C. (then Philadelphia) this weekend. The best part, hanging with Emily who just moved there this past summer, we've been friends since the 10th grade! She's one of those friends who I don't see everyday, but when we do hang out, it's like no time has passed by at all. Anyway, we went down to the National Mall for the Cherry Blossom Festival and saw some cool Japanese art at the Smithsonian, then we headed to China Town, where we ate some really good food at Busboys and Poets (must stop by there if you are in the area, did I mention that the food is good?!). Unfortunately, I was so busy being amazed at how good the food was, I didn't think to take pictures of my food until it was all gone. All in all, had a great time in D.C., promise to take better pics next time :)

Ever since I found out that the orange lips at the Ohne Titel Spring 2011 show was Revlon's Super Lustrous in Siren, I have been on the hunt for that shade and I found it today! After roaming the aisles at two Targets, Wal-Mart and Wal-Greens (seriously CVS and Ulta were next on my list) I found the shade restocked at my home Target. The color isn't as bright on as it appears in the tube, but the coral-inspired hue is perfect for a variety of skin-tones. The shade is definitely worth a try, for those of you experiencing the winter blues, it will most certainly brighten up your day :). Another note, apparently Gucci Westman, Revlon's global artistic director, added a little bit of orange powder on top of the lipstick to give it a sporty finish.

I am a little obsessed with the idea of having a chandelier hanging in my walk-in-closet. The main problem, the lack of a walk-in, I do however have a hankering to replace the ceiling fan in my room with a cool chandelier....the only problem is that while the lighting would be nice, it wouldn't help me in the summer when I like to run both the fan and a/c (did I mention that it gets hot in Miami?) So, I am not sure where I have been, but I was totally unaware that dolce vita had a line at Target. It's probably because Target doesn't normally carry my shoe size (12 in case you were wondering), but when I saw these boots on blogger Diana Kang's feet, I had to check them out. Lo and behold not only were they on-sale for $12.24, but they had them in my size! Check them out here I wound up buying them and these studded oxfords. Will definitely take pics and show them off when they arrive, but for now you can check them out on Diana's feet.

I actually made Red Velvet Cupcakes on Saturday with my niece, at that time I was supposed to take pictures and share with you all for Valentine's Day...however in an effort to make sure my niece didn't eat all of the homemade frosting...I totally forgot to take pictures. So, I scoured the internet for shots of red velvet cupcakes to share with you all. Hope you guys have a lovely V-Day.

The Gap

The Gap is actually one of my favorite places to shop for the basics, tees, pants, etc. (especially when those items are on sale). For the tall girl (like myself) they carry both a long inseam and a tall selection (though the long inseam works perfectly for me). Anyway, I was on the site today looking at jeans when I fell in love with their landing page's soft looks, pants done in neutral tones, flowy, romantic blouses and super soft looking cardigans. Will definitely go check these out this weekend.

I must admit, I didn't actually get a chance to watch the Super Bowl yesterday, I was at the hospital where my uncle and his wife recently welcomed a new son. After a late Starbuck's run, I caught up on Vampire Diaries on my DVR. Luckily, my sister (who went to a SB party) told me about her favorite commercials. After checking them out on line, I had to agree they were pretty funny. They were the Bridgestone Tire commercials and the Doritos' commercial. Watch below and let me know what you think.

Nylon is one of my favorite magazine's, it's the perfect mix of fashion, art, music and culture. It's one of those magazines where I read every page (sometimes twice). This month, they featured women artists, one of them was Alexa Meade a 23 year-old who worked as a press staffer for the Obama campaign, at first I thought I was just looking at an art painting. It turns out I was looking at a person that she painted and then photographed in a way that looked 2 dimensional, thus making her subject living breathing art. I was both blown away and inspired. I learned about the adorable MaryBeth and her store Top Drawer Vintage...the new old-fashioned way, browsing through blogs. The new mother of a 10 month-old has an on-line shop (don't you just love Etsy) that features really unique, retro-style...at super reasonable prices. So of course I had to ask her a few questions! And she was kind enough to answer.

Mash: Why the name Top Drawer Vintage?

MaryBeth: I went round and round and round about the name for my online vintage boutique. I wanted a name that was catchy enough to remember but still referenced vintage fashion or clothing or something someone might treasure. When I got stuck I started thinking of what you put clothes on or in. Like, a clothesline or basket, a closet ect. Then I thought of where I put things I treasure. Well, I put them in the top drawer. All of my things I need to have or get at on a daily basis. The top drawer is where I put the things that mean the most to me and can be most easily accessible.

Mash: How would you describe your style?

MaryBeth: My personal style is complicated at the moment. As a new Mom I am trying to find ways to be fashionable (and always affordable!), unique, and able to chase around my 10 month old. I almost always wear something vintage, whether it is a full on dress ensemble for church on Sunday or a rustic leather belt around my waist over my favorite t-shirt and jeans. I also love that one complimentary designer accessory to make me feel good, any day. On a typical day, I wear a pair of skinny jeans with my knee high flat boots, a top that is simple but has something “special”, like, a bow or rosette or ribbon of some sort, a skinny blazer or cardigan and I like to top it off with one piece of gaudy vintage jewelry. I am definitely the type of woman that is usually overdressed for every occasion.

Mash: What’s your favorite part about vintage shopping?

MaryBeth: Oh, the thrill of the find. I love to research pieces and designers to keep my eye on but most of the time it is just luck. I see the most fabulous vintage pairings from fellow vintage bloggers and friends, but there is an equal amount of luck that comes with the vintage shopping experience. You have to be in the right spot at the right time. I also love getting a good deal. There have been more than a handful of times I have walked away from a great piece due to the price. Part of the fun for me is not only finding a to die for piece, but also keeping it affordable. Why? So I can keep shopping, of course! I love the search for one-of-a-kind, beautiful garments to satisfy the retro junkie, the vintage wear extraordinaire, the uninhibited fashion enthusiasts and the “can’t live without it” thrifter.

Mash: What do you look for when shopping for vintage?

MaryBeth: In most cases (and part of the fun), vintage clothing doesn’t need to read “immediate wear-ability”. I like to look for the unique and unusual pieces that complete or compliment everyday looks. They can be a little “out there” because I imagine myself or the wearer actually wearing the piece with simple day-to-day items already in their closet. Most pieces, I feel, speak to me. As if I was meant to walk into that particular shop and find it. So often enough, I don’t feel I am looking for anything at all!

Mash: Is it tough to decide if an item belongs online or in your closet?

MaryBeth: Absolutely! Top Drawer Vintage began with me having to rid myself of the extremely oversized “collection” as I called it! I feel anyone who buys any Top Drawer Vintage piece actually takes a bit of my heart with it. I almost have to consider wearing a piece to love them as much as I do.

Mash: Do you have an ultimate all-time favorite find? If so, what was it?

MaryBeth: I have I found a Ceil Chapman 1950’s party dress at a little shop near my house that screamed Marilyn Monroe. However, when I bought it, I knew nothing of the label only thinking it was the chicest little black dress. I knew nothing about who designed it, who it was designed for or where it might have been worn. This is where the research part of vintage is so amazing. When I looked up the label I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a red carpet designer. To this day, celebrities are wearing vintage Ceil Chapman gowns. I was so proud of it I could barely let it go! However, I ended up selling it to a woman in London. I am still dreaming that is loved by her as much as me.

Mash: I’m new to vintage shopping (it became an addiction late last year J, what tips could you give me when looking for pieces?

MaryBeth: Like I said early, don’t look for an entire vintage ensemble when you go shopping. Think of each piece as you find and ask yourself, “What could I wear with this tomorrow?” Imagine yourself in a tank top and jeans, or a black pencil skirt and high heels. Let the clothing speak to you! What about the vintage piece can you see part of yourself in?

Mash: What’s new for Top Drawer?

MaryBeth: I am hoping to expand my sales locally! I am looking to do some dealing in antique shops and signing up for flea markets this summer. I love to meet people who love vintage as I do!

Mash: Where do you see Top Drawer in 5 years?

MaryBeth: I hope to adapt Top Drawer’s pieces to my own development in style. 5 years from now I will be in my early 30’s and hopefully a few more children. It will be interesting to keep a keen eye on fashion and still incorporate vintage wear-ability!

Mash: Finally, pinkpopmash is all about fashion, music, television and everything in between. So, who’s your favorite singer/band? What’s your favorite guilty pleasure television show?

MaryBeth: I am all about the classic rock. My baby and I jam out to some of my favorites like, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Mama’s and the Papa’s. As for television, we recently got Netflix for the Wii and I am obsessed with LOST! Even though so many people told me the ending was disappointing!

Fairly Legal

Sarah Shahi stars in the new USA show Fairly Legal which follows Kate, a legal mediator (my sister thought she had psychic powers like the medium or that Meg Cabot novel) who basically help solves other people's problems so that they don't go through court. I've only caught the first episode, but I liked it. Essentially Kate can solve everyone's problems, except for her own...which is why she has yet to divorce her husband and lives on her father's old boat (the Welcome A Broad). Overall, I liked the first episode and I will definitely be tuning in.

Fairly Legal airs at 10 p.m. (est) Thursday's on USA.

The Turban

For the last few months I've been on the hunt, mainly for large, vintage silk scarves so that I could make myself faux-turbans. Up until now I had been making them ini a standard way....today the Doll Factory posted a step-by-step tutorial for the perfect, chic turban. I know how I'll wear my hair on Monday. Enjoy.

I stumbled across Boxing Kitten when I found out about these oxford shoes, I had to find out more about the line. It's a vintage-inspired line started by Maya Anima Lake and the features bold African prints. Like many of you, I troll fashion blogs regularly and sometimes I get so inspired by a look I think "hey, I can do that!" I had such a moment when I came across this photo on Late Afternoon via StreetFsn

The girl's name is Eva and this sweatshirt is what prompted the earlier statement. I went out to Walmart (two weeks before Christmas, mind you, it was a mad house!) and picked up a gray sweatshirt (I own very few since I live in Miami) grabbed the scissors and went to chopping...only I didn't have the picture in front of me and my shirt looks like it got caught on the edge of something and ripped a part...I'll take a look at it again in the morning to see if it's salvageable, but for now it serves as a reminder to me to always look at the picture first :(. (I'll upload pictures of my failed attempt later on Facebook, which you should "like" btw).
